I was tired of the same movies every algorithm, list, and social feed recommends me.

Then I started to notice a pattern among the few movies I totally enjoyed: when I looked them up on Wikipedia, every single article stated that the film had received acclaim from critics.

And that got me wondering: what if there are many more like them on Wikipedia, and I would enjoy all of them? Hell yeah!

So I wrote a Python script and let it do its thing on my old Thinkpad laptop for 12 hours on the entire 150GB English archive of Wikipedia.

The result? Over 1,800 movies, from 83 countries, across 19 genres, dating back to the 1910s. And here's the best part: They're hundreds of hidden gems you won't find recommended anywhere else!

FAQ

How does this work?

I hand-written a Python script to scrape the entire Wikipedia for movies that received acclaim from critics. This gives me over 2,600 results. Then I manually reviewed each articles to make sure that the critical acclaim was meant for the film itself and not just for the performances of its actors.

Is this a movie streaming service?

No. If you play around in Discover page, you will see that clicking the posters will only bring you to their Wikipedia article. You cannot stream or download on this website.
